MC50 CAT on track for May 2017 launch at McConaghy’s China factory

McConaghy’s first MC50 CAT will be launched in May 2017. The MC50 CAT has been designed using a group of experienced owners and sailors (who between them have spent decades sailing and cruising multihulls), a highly experienced design and engineering team along with McConaghy’s 50 years’ experience building yachts for the most demanding customers and conditions.

According to Rodney Martin, McConaghy Sales Director from McConaghy’s NZ based sales and design team, ‘we think the MC50 CAT is going to appeal to the multihull sailor wanting to go faster in more luxury and style. It will also appeal to yacht owners who have owned monohull yachts in the past but who up until now could not bring themselves to buy a cat as have resisted multi hulls, that tended to only cater to the charter market.’

Martin says that those same yacht owners might have also thought that catamarans were too heavy and charter focused. With the MC50 CAT they can now own a high-performance cruising cat that sails and responds yacht with all the advantages of space, low heel and low draft.’

We are on track for our target launch date for the first MC50 CAT in May 2017. The MC50 CAT will be fully tested in the factory before being shipped direct to her new owners in Palma, Spain. From there the McConaghy team will commission the boat before handing over to her owners.

Jason Ker of KER Yacht Design is passionate about designing boats that give their owners a wonderful on water experience.

“I’m a sailor and if I know in my heart that I would have a fantastic time on board with my friends and family… then I know I’ve got the design right. I also get really excited about the best use of space, especially when you engineer a boat to be lighter. On a multihull a small weight increase has a big impact… so we’ve worked really hard to save weight. For example we’ve used carbon where it makes a difference,’ Ker says.

“It’s wonderful to work with the shipwrights at McConaghy. This team are vastly experienced in building catamarans which are much lighter than the average cruising cat, yet are safe, secure and stiff.”

A virtual reality video clip of the MC50 CAT was a popular exhibit at the recent Dusseldorf Boat Show, where showgoers were given an exciting virtual tour of this catamaran.

The MC range has Bureau Veritas classification for blue water sailing, which is the highest global rating. TMG McConaghy are inviting inspections of the all new MC50CAT at the China factory, which is easily accessible from Hong Kong. Register your interest in viewing this state of the art sailing cat today.
