Meet Jason Ker

We had a chat with designer Jason Ker about the passion and drive behind the innovative and exciting MC range.

Here’s what Jason had to say…

“I’m passionate about designing boats that give their owners a wonderful on water experience.

I’m a sailor and if I know in my heart that I would have a fantastic time on board with my friends and family … then I know I’ve got the design right.

Careful Thinking

I also get really excited about the best use of space, especially when you engineer a boat to be lighter.

On a multihull a small weight increase has a big impact … so we’ve worked really hard to save weight.

For example, we’ve used carbon where it makes a difference.”

Safety First

It’s wonderful to work with the shipwrights at McConaghy.

This team are vastly experienced in building catamarans which are much lighter than the average cruising cat … yet safe, secure and stiff.”

The MC range has Bureau Veritas classification for blue water sailing – the highest global rating.

Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living

At TMG we love the fact that these boats are laid out to be useful in all conditions at all times. These boats are on-water studio apartments giving you seamless indoor-outdoor living.

The steering position is specifically set up to give you the feeling of being in a modern monohull.

The winches and lines are at the helm position and important controls are duplicated so you can race short-handed and berth the boat on your own.

We also really like the centreboards which pivot up inside the hulls.

This design gives you all the upwind advantage of a dagger board but if you hit something a shear pin will go and the superstructure will remain intact.

Jason graduated from Southampton Institute’s renowned B.Eng (Hons) Yacht and Powercraft design degree course then gained valuable experience building custom and production yachts, fast ferries and ships.

As a member of both the International Technical Committee and the advisory council of the Sailing Yacht Research Council, Jason Ker actively contributes to the sport of yacht racing through development of improved rating technology.
