Turning heads at the 2018 Cannes Festival of Yachting

The European debut of the luxurious, high-performance McConaghy MC60 and the largest ever line up of Lagoons certainly turned plenty of heads at the recent 2018 Cannes Festival of Yachting.

Lagoon was by far the largest single exhibitor at the show, with an incredible seven Lagoon models on display, including the 40, 42, 450 Flybridge, 50, 52 Flybridge, 630 MY and the mighty SEVENTY7.

TMG Director Peter Hrones and Queensland State Manager Rowan McMahon flew to the Cannes Festival of Yachting to welcome Australian clients on board the seven incredible Lagoons, as well as the two stunning McConaghy boats.

We asked Rowan to share some of his highlights of this incredible five-day event…

“At every boat show the Lagoon stand is always buzzing and brimming with people but this year the Lagoon stand was by far the biggest and the busiest stand at the Cannes show.

The Lagoon SEVENTY 7 was a massive crowd drawer, just like the Lagoon SEVENTY 8 was last year. There were lots of people going through the SEVENTY 7 and they were seriously impressed with what is effectively the sailing version of the SEVENTY 8.

Being the number one catamaran brand in the world, the Lagoon hospitality is always second to none. This year Lagoon had a new section in their hospitality tent where they showcased the history of the Lagoon brand via a stunning series of collages.

As our clients relaxed with their coffee or their glass of rosé and waited for their dealer to come along, they could see the evolution of this incredible brand of boats, including every model they have produced.

The social element of owning a Lagoon really shone through, including our very own Whitsundays Escapade, which was featured in the tent!

Another massive highlight of the show was the debut of the one of a kind McConaghy MC60.

This really threw a cat among the pigeons … there is nothing else like it on the market!

With its features that include an alfresco saloon, electric sliding windows and large opening folding doors to open up the saloon to the deck, it really is the perfect blend of performance and luxury and having all amenities on board.

There was an incredible saxophonist playing house music and beats on the MC60 at the boat show launch party, playing with so much charisma as he ran up and down the flybridge. The energy he had was infectious and he drew an enormous crowd of people to the boat.

The new Lagoon 50 is also a stand out boat, offering an owner’s version with three cabins on the opposite hull, so you can be at once selfish with the owner’s hull and generous with the other hull. This is a very unique feature and no other boat on the market has that option.

When you buy a Lagoon you’re not just buying a boat, you’re buying into the family! Peter and I enjoyed catching up with other Lagoon owners and the hierarchy of Lagoon … like-minded people getting together to have a good time, with a shared love of their cats.

The food was amazing and we marked the end of the Cannes show by having dinner with the Lagoon crowd at a traditional Corsican restaurant we always visit each year.

For TMG, the 2018 Cannes Festival of Yachting really was our biggest and best show ever, showcasing two of the most exciting boat brands in the world today.

Not only was it fantastic to spend time with the wonderful Lagoon family from around the world, but it was also an opportunity to reflect on the growth of Lagoon to become the number one catamaran brand in the world and see how it continues to go from strength to strength.”
